Whew

You know that you’re a mom when sleeping in till 9 a.m. is one of the sweetest joys imaginable. This is what I got to do on Mother’s Day. Kyle brought me breakfast in bed, with an obviously hungry Owen on his heels … which meant that I ate my cinnamon biscuits with a speedy gusto, since a crying child somehow takes the serenity out of a breakfast in bed.

Speaking of food, I’m starting to get overwhelmed by the idea of rice cereal, high chairs and sippy cups. There’s a reason we still haven’t attempted to give Owen any “real food,” and that reason could be anxiety, fatigue or denial.

Owen turned 5 months old on Friday. I celebrated his month-day (?) by watching Kris Allen perform during my lunch break and by finally buying myself a pair of TOMS shoes. I wish I were the type of mother who wrote Owen little notes every month, but I can’t handle the pressure. Instead, I’ll honor his 5-month-hood by delivering to you “The Evolution of Owen”:

Let’s say that these five months are my five graces for the last five days. :)

  1. haha..month five shot is the best. chillin in the tub. sweet photos. you bought a pair of TOMS? i have my eye on a pair, but haven’t bitten the bullet. (such a strange phrase)

  2. Yay for TOMS! I’m anxiously awaiting my first pair. I think they’ve shipped.

Don’t be overwhelmed by rice cereal! It’s easy, I promise. Use the bumpo chair and try giving him some (one teaspoon cereal [it's in the baby food aisle at Target] with one ounce water … you can use breast milk, too … I just used water :) ). If he spits it out, try it again later. If he takes it, you’re good! Not that you really wanted any rice cereal tips, but I just thought I’d toss in my two cents. You can toss it back, if you’d like. :)

    What color are the TOMS??

  3. Um, make that tablespoon. Not sure what I meant with the teaspoon. That would be … well, nothing. :)
